I have a boat you might be able to help
me with. I bought it in a second hand shop about 10 years ago. The sails were
all rotted out so I would think it has some age to it. It has been suggested
it might be a built from Graham Bantock plans.
Hope the pictures are OK. It is 36" long, 9" wide and 12" from
bottom of keel to deck. Stands 5' 5" to top of mast (someone at Setly
suggested this would make it "fit in the box" for a 36R boat). The
fittings are nothing to shout about, There are simple "eyes" screwed
into the deck. All the rigging bits seem to be crudely bent from heavy wire.
As you can see it has a vane on the back which would make it tiresome to sail
as far as I am concerned. I was considering opening it up to see if I could
put RC in it, I hope that won't horrify you too much.
My main concern is, should I try to put RC on it? The main help I need is
some sort of plan for sails for it. Dave Watson from Hythe sent me some plans
for a swing rig from a 36" class boat but my skills are low and I am
afraid to "hurt" the boat.
Any help you could offer would be welcome.

This is a
Vic Smeed 'Gosling' to the 36R class. The design comes from Model Boats in
1971. I attach an extract from the plan that shows the dimensions of the sails.
The fittings are simple because that is the way Vic intended them to be. This
was a boat for beginners to build for themselves, without access to complex
equipment.
No reason why you shouldn't put radio in if you want. Just keep it as light
and as simple as you can.RP
