Crossed flag emblem

This pond yacht is believed to be circa 1915 , mahogany planked hull with pine plank decking. Interesting brass emblem on deck representing crossed flags.

Original sails with original mast.
Size; LOA 49 INCHES. BEAM 8 INCHES. MAST HEIGHT 62 INCHES. KEEL TO DECK 13 INCHES.
Brass steering gear and fittings. EXCELLENT CONDITION

Any help you can give related to this yacht..a likely age, type, manufacture and approximate value, in fact any information or history, would be very much appreciated.

It's difficult to be entirely sure what this is; I think that it is unlikely to be as early as 1915, certainly not if the rig is the original fit. At that period, no model yachts were Bermuda rigged. The hull also looks to be later in style, possibly late 1920s. If that is the case the boat might be a rather small 6-metre to the International Rule, except that the depth of the fin looks too big to be accommodated within the Rule. The other possibility id a boat to the 18 footer Rule that was in use by modellers from about 1916 to 1930. Again the Rule penalises deep fins and the boat is a bit small overall, so it is perhaps more likely that the boat is not to a racing Rule at all. This is borne out by what appears to be a pocket for a through batten in the main. After 1923, all model classes had batten limits that prevented this technique.

From the general style of the boat, I would say she was built by someone in the mainstream of model yachting technique for the period, or by a professional woodworker who had taken the trouble to look carefully at serious models on his local pond.

A boat of this type, visibly a work of craftsmanship has appeal to the antique/ interior decorator market, but it would be a shame to let her go there, where she will never see water again. Why not put her up on the VMYG web site and invite offers
