Alpha

Please can you help me, I bought this pond yacht in a auction and and unable to find out any infomation on it.It has a overall lenth of 29" and a overall hight of 46". the hull is hollowed out with a solid deck and all the fittings are brass, it has the name alpha on the stern the sails are made from ripstop nylon

The hull looks to be a commercial product, possibly from the 1920s or 30s. The relatively deep fin suggests that the design origin, if not the construction, might be American, but even with this depth of fin, the small ballast suggests that she will not be very stable. The sails are not original and must date from the 1950s or later. The spars look as though they might be original, in which case I would be inclined to get her back on the water with the sails you have to see if the rig is realistic and practical before making a new suit in cotton. - Russell Potts
