Reliably informed that she was built
in 1939. I hope to have documentation in due course. Was I am told tested
in a wind tunnel!!
May have some connection with a Mr M.C. Brothers who lived in Cricklewood
London NW2 and Blackpool Lancs.
LOA 401/2" with bowsprit 47"
Beam 8 1/4" Deck to keel 12 3/4" Mast height from deck 11 3/4"
Weight 14lbs
Fixed guy from boom end to cleat on after deck allows 45deg movement of boom
Adjustable and removable guy from boom to after end of rudder bar allows 25
to 35 deg movement of boom. Adjustable lines from foreward end of tiller.
Appears to be carved from the solid. No hatches in deck. Was shellaced over
the paint and had been stored wrapped in a blanket in a warm place and all
the shellac had melted and run.
Half a gallon of meths and a few hours rubbing removed most of it.
It sails reasonably well.
VMYG comment
First off, I have no knowledge of
Brothers at either of his location.
If built in 1939, long out of date in both style of hull, rig and steering
arrangements. It looks to be a good deal older than that, but could have come
from an old plan or have been made up as he went along by Brothers. On the
other hand the shape is very much like an enlargement of a commercial toy
yacht. The steering gear, though old fashioned is nicely made and the boat
may be better than the photo makes it appear.
