Sandpiper

I recently acquired this 36" pond model which had been purchased from a seller in England four years ago. I was told it is a 36/600 pond model.
I think it might be an old 36 Restricted class pond model.

The dimensions are :
length 36 "
width 8 "
height 10 "
weight 10 pounds
mast length 48 "

The hull shape is that of a classic yacht. there is no evidence of a mainsheet traveler ever being instaqlled.
The name on the stern is Sandpiper.
The finish is the original finish.
The current steering system is simply a plastic triangle attached to the rudder post

Clearly this is not a 36/600. It could be a 36R, in the sense that it will probably fit into the 36 x 9 x 11 box, but it is shy of the maximum dimensions by a good deal and also well under the 12 pound maximum displacement. Even in the very earliest days of the Rule, I don't think designers gave away displacement and stability to this extent. I think it is more likely to be a non class yacht that happens to be 36 inches long. This is reinforced by the absence of a proper Braine gear, which was an essential fitting for any seriously intended racing model by the time the 36R originated in 1930.
