But the day seemed to belong to the Stars of Birkenhead of which there
were a large number of significant boats. Jasper's early post-war fleet
included 'Pacific, Baltic and Arctic Stars' and also the very beamy
30" 'Western Star' SB5 sporting brass rudder and 'Clyde tiller'
as well as unusually, planking following the deck profile rather than
the much more common fore and aft arrangement.
Grahame Davis had an SB 'Shooting Star' in
beautiful original pre-war condition with particularly attractive creamy
painted topsides with a characteristic timber rudder with 'friction'
top bearing.
